This month, I’m pleased to bring you a guest blog, most recently featured in Jane Friedman’s newsletter, by memoirist and writing coach Marion Roach Smith.
Smith addresses a question that haunts many memoirists these days: Why write memoir when the world is in flames? In other words, how could we be so self-centered at a time of national and global upheaval?
This question is relevant to everyone, as Smith believes that writing memoir has the potential to get us through the pandemic, to help us make sense of the racial uprising, and to address our anxiety; and thus has the power to help us heal. What could be bad?
